Automotive Lighting
Bee Design has earned an envieable reputation as experts in the specialised field of automotive lighting design and development.
The team is led by 6 experienced lighting design engineers trained by some of the worlds biggest automotive lighting companies, Hella, Magneti Marelli and Koito.
Bee Design offers a fixed price, flexible engineering service and an in-depth knowledge of the market. We have technological know-how and an understanding of the regulatory factors governing vehicle lighting, which sets us apart from our competition. We can count Lamborghini, Bentley, Nissan, Ascari and Land Rover amongst our satisfied clients.
Bee Design is an established independent UK company offering complete Vehicle Lighting design and development. Our services include conceptual design & vehicle packaging, photometric development, detailing, tooling and product validation.
The complete lighting development solution:

Mechanical Component Design
The Bee Design lighting team consists of lead designers with experience of taking vehicle lighting projects from concept to production. Projects to date include full vehicle lighting sets. Typically these include:
- Headlamps
- Tail lamps
- Side repeaters
- Side markers
- Interior lamps
Covering all aspects of lamp design we understand the robustness required of every component. We apply good engineering practice to ensure every components design meets or exceed the vehicle manufacturers SDS.
Craftsmanship is a key area and can significantly affect individual component design. Our experience in the automotive lighting sector has ensured that we fully appreciate this area and work with our customers to ensure their fit and finish requirements, from internal component gaps and see through to gap and flush of lamp to vehicle, are fully met.
Our proactive and flexible way of working allows us to fully support lighting development projects. From attending your internal design reviews to leading design reviews at the OEM, we are comfortable and able to support at all levels.
Photometric Development
Incorporating the photometric development into the design team allows Bee Design to offer a complete bespoke lighting service. The combination of good component design and innovative, accurate photometric development is the perfect blend to ensure lighting products are developed for component quality, ease of manufacture and to meet the relevant legal requirements.
The close proximity of the mechanical and photometric development engineers allows both mechanical and optical development to be carried out in a simultaneous and efficient manner.
Using ASAP optical engineering simulation software we are able to accurately develop and simulate optical systems which meet customer requirements for beam pattern and meet the appropriate legislation. ASAP allows us to generate and optimise surface data for optical systems using the latest technology and then integrate these surfaces into our component design. Having such a tight team with total control over the development process significantly reduces development lead-times.
Testing & Type Approval
The Bee Design automotive lighting team is a collection of individuals with a wealth of experience in managing vehicle lighting projects from concept to production. And that includes industry standards testing and type approval though our excellent links with the British Standards Institute.
In addition we offer a diagnostic service for existing designs where we can investigate inherent optical system problems and recommend cost effective solutions for rectification.
Finally, Bee Design can undertake to design and manufacture specialist jigs and fixtures to ensure lamps are mounted in the correct orientation for testing.
Prototype and Show Car
Customers demand that show car lamps are innovative and top quality with a level of detail that matches that of a production lamp, all delivered within a short time frame. With the experience gained in developing production lamps, Bee Design has the capability and experience to design and deliver complete show car lamp packages. Working with the customer we cover all aspects of design from vehicle packaging and styling to vehicle electrical connection to ensure the lamps fit and work first time, everytime.
